Tate Reeves, the Republican Governor of Mississippi, has announced that he will be signing a bill banning transgender student athletes from competing against biologically female student athletes. The announcement, which will ensure that sports in Mississippi remain fair, will be heralded by conservatives as a landmark victory in the fight to guarantee opportunities in sport for women. The bill has already been passed by the Mississippi House and Senate.
The Governor tweeted “I will sign our bill to protect young girls from being forced to compete with biological males for athletic opportunities. It’s crazy we have to address it, but the Biden E.O. forced the issue. Adults? That’s on them. But the push for kids to adopt transgenderism is just wrong.”
The ‘Biden E.O.’ Reeves refers to in the tweet was an Executive Order released by the President on his first day in office which says, “children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports.” However, whilst this may sound ideal, critics will be quick to point out the President’s blatant disregard for the differences between biological males and biological females.
About the Executive Order, Gov. Reeves said:
“I am so disappointed over President Biden’s actions to force young girls like them to compete with biological males for access to athletics. It will limit opportunity for so many competitors like my daughters. It is bad policy and it is wrong for America.”
The bill, aptly called the Mississippi Fairness Act, states that ‘Athletic teams or sports designated for ‘females,’ ‘women’ or ‘girls’ shall not be open to students of the male sex.’ Justifying the bill, Mississippi GOP Rep. Becky Currie said, ‘Allowing males to compete in girls’ sports destroys fair competition and women’s athletic opportunities.’ She also said, ‘I’m not interested in getting into an argument with you on who’s boys and who’s girls and who thinks they’re what,’
Any ‘government entity’, accredited institution, or “any athletic association or organization” would be banned under the bill from considering any complaints, starting any investigations, or taking any action against education institutions “for maintaining separate interscholastic or intramural athletic teams or sports for students of the female sex.”
In response, the Human Rights campaign has attacked what it has superciliously called the ‘sanctity of sports’, blatantly disregarding the many female student athletes who could be denied opportunities because of the left’s radical, anti-female agenda. The Human Rights Campaign also claimed in a tweet that “We are witnessing a coordinated effort to limit and erase trans existence across the country.”
