Dominion Voting Systems has filed a lawsuit against MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell for $1.3 billion, after Lindell claimed that it rigged the election in favour of Joe Biden. As well as defamation, the lawsuit also claims that Lindell used the lies he was telling about Dominion to sell more pillows. The MyPillow CEO and founder isn’t the only person Dominion is suing; it has filed lawsuits against Rudy Giuliani and Sydney Powell.
Lindell has been a staunch supporter of Former President Trump, often appearing at events and giving speeches in favour of the ex-President. However, after the 2020 Presidential election, Lindell made repeated claims that Dominion had rigged it in favour of Joe Biden, without providing adequate evidence. This lead Dominion to filing the defamation lawsuit against Lindell. In the complaint, Dominion said:
“Dominion brings this action to vindicate the company’s rights, to recover damages, to seek a narrowly tailored injunction, to stand up for itself and its employees, and to stop Lindell and MyPillow from further profiting at Dominion’s expense,” the lawsuit read.
Lindell has stated multiple times that the election was stolen, such as on One America News Network (OANN) where he controversially purchased a whole day of airtime to show a ‘documentary’ which claimed to provide evidence of voter fraud. On Newsmax, host Bob Sellers stormed off camera as he attempted to fact-check Lindell and stop him propagating claims of voter fraud. Sellers later apologised, calling Lindell ‘a friend of the network’.
Youtube and Vimeo have said that they will pull Lindell’s documentary Absolute Proof from their sites, and major retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl have said that they will no longer sell MyPillow products, though Lindell’s supporters and sympathisers would be quick to condemn this as cancel culture.
Dominion said that Lindell had “exposed Dominion to the most extreme hatred and contempt. Lindell himself called it the ‘biggest crime ever committed in election history against our country and the world.’” However, Lindell welcomed the lawsuit, claiming that he has “100% evidence that China and other countries used their machines to steal the election.”
