Unarmed Veteran Trump Supporter Killed by Capitol Police

Capitol Police shot an unarmed veteran protester during the chaos and storming of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.

A police spokesman, Alaina Gertz, provided no further details, including who shot the victim or if anyone had been arrested in the episode. After the Capitol on Wednesday afternoon was overrun by supporters of President Donald Trump, police were seen providing aid to a bloodied woman lying on the floor inside the building.

The Post said the woman was 14-year Air Force veteran Ashli Babbit of San Diego – was draped in red, white and blue when she was shot.

Babbitt was a strong supporter of President Trump, her husband said.

Her husband said he has been in contact with Washington D.C.-area law enforcement, but said they didn’t tell him exactly what led to the shooting. He said he doesn’t know what would have warranted the shooting.

“I really don’t know why she decided to do this,” Babbitt’s mother-in-law told the local Fox affiliate in D.C.

Babbitt’s husband was not in D.C with her. The couple owned a business together called Fowlers Pool Service and Supply, according to reports.

She was transported via stretcher with blood streaming from her mouth and later died at a local hospital.

According to NBC News, there were at least 30 arrests made by Capitol Police.

The violent death was the first at the Capitol since 1998 when a gunman forced his way through metal detectors as alarms sounded and shot to death two Capitol police officers before he was wounded and taken into custody. In 1954, according to a House history, four people associated with the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party opened fire from a gallery over the House floor, wounding five congressmen.
