In a prerecorded video for a virtual celebration of the 40th anniversary of Jesuit Refugee Service, Joe Biden announced that he is committed to bringing in an astounding number of refugees. “The United States has long stood as a beacon of hope for the downtrodden and the oppressed, a leader of resettling refugees in our humanitarian response. I promise, as president, I will reclaim that proud legacy for our country. The Biden-Harris administration will restore America’s historic role in protecting the vulnerable and defending the rights of refugees everywhere and raising our annual refugee admission target to 125,000.”
President Trump established a ceiling of 15,000 refugees every year, but Biden has now promised to increase that number drastically. Speaking about the Jesuit Refugee Service Biden said, “This organization was founded to serve the needs of some of the most vulnerable among us: refugees and displaced people. JRS believes that, in the stranger, we actually meet our neighbor. And that every society is ultimately judged by how we treat those most in need.”
The Jesuit Refugee Service was founded in Rome, Italy in 1980. It’s an international Catholic organization that serves to accompany, serve, and advocate for refugees and other persons displaced by force, so that they can heal, learn, determine and move forward with their own future.
Since the announcement, he’s received great praise from the JSR. Director of Advocacy and Operations Giulia McPherson for the Jesuit Refugee Service said that Biden has demonstrated his commitment to the Catholic faith by prioritizing expanding resources and admissions for refugees. Even though Joe Biden has long been a vocal supporter of abortion he has still received quite a bit of support for the JSR.
