New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is upset with Democrats for not fully embracing her progressive ideas. She reportedly told the New York Times that Democrats have been “hostile” to anything even hinting at progressive. After Election Day Democrats were quick to blame any far-left progressive policy or move as the reasoning for their loss. AOC didn’t like that and she said,
“I need my colleagues to understand that we are not the enemy. And that their base is not the enemy. That the Movement for Black Lives is not the enemy, that Medicare for all is not the enemy. This isn’t even just about winning an argument. It’s that if they keep going after the wrong thing, I mean, they’re just setting up their own obsolescence.”
Biden has been quick to step into his media-declared role of president-elect and has already given his victory speech. In it, he stirred the crowd calling for unity, despite his supporters desecrating Donald Trump dolls and dummies, and promised that he would work to compromise with Republicans.
On NBC’s “Meet the Press” Kate Bedingfield promised that AOC would not be disappointed with a Joe Biden administration as it would be “incredibly progressive”. She said,
“I think that Vice President Biden campaigned on an incredibly progressive and aggressive agenda. Take a look, for example, at his climate plan. It’s the boldest, biggest climate plan that’s ever been put forward by, you know, by a nominee running for president and now a president-elect. He’s going to make good on those commitments. I mean we, you know, he spent time during this campaign bringing people together around, around this climate plan. He was able to get the endorsement of groups like the Sunrise Movement and the endorsement of Labor for this plan. It’s a big, aggressive plan. It’s a perfect example of the kind of, you know, big effort that he is going to make to meet this moment and to meet these crises that we’re in.“
The Washington Post reported that a Biden agenda includes reversing several executive orders that Trump issued over his four years in office. Biden promised to rejoin the Paris Climate agreement that the Trump administration just got the US out of. He would also allow “Dreamers” to stay in the country legally, would reverse the withdrawal from the WHO, and repeal the controversial travel ban on Muslim-majority nations.
