There have been travel restrictions at the border since March due to concerns of COVID-19. But President Trump says that things should be returning to normal “pretty soon”. He said,
“We’re looking at the border with Canada. Canada would like it opened and we want to get back to normal business. We’re going to be opening the borders pretty soon.”
There is no exact timeline for what “pretty soon” actually means. Representatives for both countries say that it could be at least another month.
Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Bill Blair said that non-essential travel restrictions will be in place until October 21, 2020.
Washington and Ottawa sources both say that it’s possible the extension could easily go into the end of November.
